About

Hawaiʻi Medicaid (administered by the Department of Human Services) is a joint federal-state safety net program established in 1965 to provide essential health and nursing home coverage for low-income families, children, pregnant women, and individuals with disabilities. In Hawaiʻi, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is integrated into the broader Medicaid program to ensure that all eligible youth have access to comprehensive medical care. Guided by the spirit of aloha, the program focuses on developing and promoting innovative, high-quality healthcare initiatives that empower residents to sustain their long-term well-being.
